What does responsible investment mean at the Savings Bank?

Responsible investment refers to an investment process in which attention is paid to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in addition to financial figures. The application of responsibility principles is an important part of our investment process, and we observe our Responsible Investment Policy in all of our funds. The implementation takes place through the various approaches defined here and varies slightly between asset classes.

The following principles are taken into account in all of our asset management activities:

  • We consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in our investment activities
  • We monitor our direct investments with regard to compliance with international agreements and norms
  • We participate in cooperation initiatives aimed at enhancing responsible investment
  • We are an active owner, which means that we participate in the shareholders’ meetings of the companies invested in by the funds that we manage, for example
  • We do not make direct investments in certain industries, including the arms industry and the tobacco industry
  • We engage in transparent communications on the responsibility of our funds; for example, in the form of a sustainability report.

With regard to the environment, incorporating ESG factors into the investment process includes giving due consideration to topics such as sustainable development, biodiversity and energy issues. The relevant areas of social responsibility can include human resource policy and working conditions, respecting human rights and equality, for example. The topics of governance-related assessments include the independence and remuneration of the Board of Directors, the paying of taxes and maintaining anti-corruption and anti-bribery practices.
